The Gir National Park is a notable wildlife attraction located at Junagadh, Gujarat Gir National Park was established in the year 1965 and covers 3,386 square kilometers of area. The national park is home to the Asiatic lion- 'Panthera leo persica' as well as great population of leopards. The flora here comprises teak, scrub, Acacia, Banyan trees, grassland and marshland. Some of the wild animals found here are Sambhar, Black Bucks, Wild Boar, Grey Musk Shrew, Indian Hare, Small Indian Civet, Deer and Hyenas.
Declared a wildlife sanctuary in the year 1986, the Kutch Desert Wildlife Sanctuary is nestled in the Great Rann of Kutch in the district of Kutch in the state of Gujarat. Counted amongst the largest seasonal saline wetlands, a variety of mammals and bird species flourish here. Kutch Desert Wildlife Sanctuary is home to a rare variety of species like striped hyena, small Indian civet, porcupine etc. some of the reptiles found here are snakes, star tortoise and monitor lizards. Moreover, the flamingo city is famous for large population of the birds that breed here. In addition to this some of the other avian species seen here are White backed vulture, Stork, Crow, Spoonbill, Osprey and Black vultures. Hyenas, Jackals, Chinkara, Pale Hedgehog, Indian Porcupine, Sambhar, Jackal and Wild Boar are the most common animals found here.
The Nal sarovar Bird sanctuary is positioned near the Sanand Village to the west of Ahmadabad. The entire sanctuary is inhabited during the winter and spring by numerous migratory birds. Some of the winter migrant birds here are Rosy Pelicans, Brahminy Ducks, Flamingos, Herons and White Storks. Apart from bird watching travelers can also enjoy picnic at the shacks located on the islands.
The Sasangir Wildlife Sanctuary is placed in the district of Saurashtra of Gujarat and is spread across 1412 sq. km of area. Renowned for housing the Asiatic Lions, the wildlife sanctuary is home to dense deciduous vegetation comprising Teak, jamun, dhak, acacia, tendu and babul trees. The sanctuary is also home to criss-crossing rivers that add up o the beauty of this wildlife centre. Some of the famous fauna species found here are wild boar, chinkara, jackal, striped hyena, hare, leopard, nilgai, gazelle, spotted deer, four-horned antelope and marsh Crocodile. Birds such as bonelli's eagle, painted sand grouse, peafowl, grey partridge, jungle bush quail, common green pigeon and doves are also found here.
